Equal Grouping

            Division means making equal groups.
Anchal has 24 earrings. She wants to put them in packets
            of 8 earrings each.

She starts by putting 8 earrings in one packet. She is left
            with 16 earrings.

She puts 8 earrings in another packet. She is left with 8
            earrings.
She puts 8 earrings in the third packet.
            Now, she has no earrings.

On arranging 24 earrings into groups of 8 earrings each,
            we get 3 packets.
            Thus, 24 ÷ 8 = 3

                                ↑ ↑ ↑
Number of Number of earrings Number of
earrings in all in each packet packets

Example 2. There are 20 balls. How many packets can be made if each packet
            contains 4 balls.
            Solution.

                                             20 ÷ 4 = 5
Therefore, 5 packets of 4 balls each can be made with 20 balls.

                        Exercise 5A

                1. Share the following items equally among the groups by drawing lines to connect
                    them.
                    a. 16 ice cream cones among 4 children

16 ice creams shared equally by 4 is ____
                                                                      16 ÷ 4 = _____

Each child gets _____ ice cream cones.
